Exquisitely handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam, Toeback is a one-of-a-kind table lamp made from a rare Oud Delft tobacco jar, reflecting the legacy of this celebrated Dutch ceramics brand. Established in 1920 by W.A. van der Want in Nijmegen, Netherlands, Oud Delft is renowned for its exceptional Delftware, which merges traditional Dutch craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic. Known for their distinct glazes and intricate hand-painted motifs, Oud Delft pieces, like their iconic KLM houses crafted exclusively for Dutch airlines, have captivated collectors worldwide. This particular jar, produced post-1968, is adorned with deep blue hand-painted patterns and inscribed with “Toeback” (“tobacco” in Dutch), paying homage to its original purpose as a tobacco container.
We've paired the jar with a custom pleated lampshade crafted from a vintage Indian silk sari, featuring a striking blend of deep blue, beige, and red.
