About the Item

A beautiful pair of French lamps, with a gold leaf finish and a monogrammed cartouche. Originally hand-carved in the 1700s, the original function was most likely as three-light table candelabras, as indicated by the rectangular plinth that supports the lamps. In the center of each lamp is a dramatic monogram (possibly “MA” or “AM”), set within an oval emblazoned on a shaped console. The cartouche is surrounded by a flowing rinceau that includes volutes and a leaf cup crest. Rising from the foliage are three scalloped bobeche cups, with the center one extending beyond the ones that flank it. All three are topped by beige faux candle sleeves that sit behind cream partial shades adorned with thin gimp borders. The three-light candelabras have been electrified for use in American homes more recently, making them attractive table lamps for an office, library, or living room.
