DIMENSIONS: 33" x 18" People with a superb sense of style understand that good design cannot be dated by the calendar! These are people who acquire the finest in mid century furnishings for their interiors! The Laurel Lighting Company was one of the most prestigious makers of lamps in the mid century period. This reputation was well deserved. The firm started in the forties producing lamps for the most demanding buyers. Laurel's Sculptural lamps are now icons in the mid-century furnishing lexicon. Richard Barr produced many striking designs that could qualify as stand alone pieces of modern art. This is perhaps one of his finest and definitely one of the rarest. Here we see a sculpture very reminiscent of Brancusi's "Bird in Space" (1928) sculpture. Arguably, Barr outdoes Brancusi with an even more streamlined work! This was no longer just a lamp! This was fine art that illuminated itself! Very fine vintage condition! Some light wear to the Swedish Brass. This is an incredibly rare Laurel Lamp and almost never leaves collector's hands or appears in the marketplace. It is one of the most streamlined lamps ever made. Presents marvelously! A sublime mid century treasure for your NY penthouse, Palm Springs atomic ranch or West Palm Beach estate!
