About the Item

A distinctive example of British studio pottery lighting from the 1980s, this handmade ceramic table lamp was crafted by Graeme James in his Chipping Campden workshop. The base combines terracotta and stoneware, executed using the traditional wax resist technique—a process where wax is applied by hand before glazing. As the glaze resists the waxed areas during firing, it reveals expressive brushstrokes and exposes the raw terracotta beneath, producing a multi-layered, highly tactile surface. This vintage pottery lamp reflects James’ careful balance between function and craft, offering subtle sculptural presence with a grounded, earthy palette. The base is artist-signed to the underside. Dimensions: H 32 cm x Ø 15 cm Condition: Very good vintage condition. One small glaze nick to the upper rim. In working order, though PAT testing or UL certification is recommended prior to installation.
