Tatu Table Lamp from André Ricard for Metalarte 1972 Spain
By Metalarte, André Ricard
Located in Lisboa, PT
A playful icon of Spanish industrial design, the Tatu Table Lamp was created by André Ricard for Metalarte in 1972. Inspired by the periscope and the ergonomic curves of a tattoo machine, "Tatu" embodies the spirit of 1970s innovation — modular, functional, and bold in personality.
Crafted in vibrant red thermoplastic, the lamp features three independently rotating joints, allowing it to morph seamlessly between a table lamp and a wall-mounted light. This example retains its original box, along with the original wall bracket tucked inside — a detail rarely preserved, making this a particularly complete and collectible piece.
What makes this version even more special is the “Diseño Selección ADI FAD” stamp proudly displayed on the body — a recognition awarded by Spain’s prestigious Association of Industrial Design (ADI-FAD), confirming its significance in the history of contemporary design.
With its futuristic curves, graphic black detailing, and sculptural adaptability, the Tatu lamp...
