A stylish Art Nouveau bedroom set most likely designed by De Coene, Kortrijk with artwork (sculptures and copper plaquettes) by the Belgian artist Geo Verbanck.
This set features two nightstands, a small size double bed, a wardrobe and a mirrored sideboard. All items in solid oak with copper details. The nightstands and sideboard each have a beautiful grey marble top. For more details about each piece, please see our other collection or contact us.
The Kortrijk Art Workshop Gebroeders De Coene, often also called Kortrijk Art Workshop De Coene or simply De Coene, was a Belgian furniture and woodworking company in the city of Kortrijk that existed from 1887 to 1976. De Coene was one of the most famous furniture companies in Belgium.
Geo Verbanck was born in Ghent on 28 February 1881. He studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Geo Verbanck gradually became better known, partly through his participation in national and international exhibitions. In 1941 Verbanck was awarded the state prize "Grand Prize of the Plastic Arts" for his entire oeuvre. Verbanck is considered one of the last classical sculptors and "le poète de l'élégance". His education at the academies in Ghent and Brussels allowed him to develop his own sensitive figurative style in which a classical purity, harmony and an intuitive sense of the right dimension were paramount.
