- Rare Opportunity To Acquire A Museum Quality, Late-18th Century, Neoclassical Period, Italian, Handcarved, Painted & Gilded, Tester State Bed & Accompanying Cupboard of State With An Impeccable Historic House Provenance - The quality of the carving and gilding is exceptional - Ornamental narrative characteristic of the period - Original condition, sturdy & suitable for everyday use - Practical for modern comfort accommodating a USA California King/UK super-king mattress 180cm, 6ft. Wide PROVENANCE : Private Collection acquired directly from Michael Weetman Pearson 4th Viscount Cowdray. Pearson Family by Descent. Bearing Cowdray Park 1919 ivorine inventory label no 522. Purchased for the White Bedroom by Sir Weetman Pearson 1908, who was created Viscount Cowdray in 1917 6th Earl of Egmont, in Italy. Numerous Dogana di Firenze export stamps 03.12.1903 exported from Florience Private collection Florence. The side rails have metal mortices which fit into metal tenons. The tester frame has a recess in each corner for screws at the end of each bedpost to locate into.
