19th Century Irish Country Squires Mahogany Hunt Table
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a gorgeous 19th century Irish country squires mahogany Hunt table. This table was made in the late 19th century circa 1880, and is made of solid mahogany and sits on 8 legs with padded hoof feet. 2 drop leafs on either side supported by swinging gate legs on either side when upwards. Beautiful interlocking detail to the side leafs and central section. Oval in shape …. it would comfortably seat 8 people. Made in Ireland. This is a ‘Hunt’ table and not to be confused with an Irish ‘Wake’ table. Whilst ‘Hunt Tables’ and ‘Wake Tables’ are similar in shape and design their original purposes could not be more different. Wake Tables were made and used by indigenous Irish people for 2 purposes: (1) As a full functional dining table and (2) the central section had to be of sufficient width and length to support a coffin for the purpose of ‘waking’ the deceased in their home. Wake Tables were almost always made of oak, as this was the most common wood found in Ireland and therefore available to the ordinary (and poor) Irish Folk. Sometimes they might also be made of elm or sycamore. Hunt Tables. however, we not made for the purposes of holding a coffin or ‘waking’ the dead. They were made for the ruling classes, nobility or gentry for the sole purpose of use on the day of the ‘hunt’. This would be the fox hunting season of Fall and Winter, where the participants in the ‘hunt’ would gather at the local manor house early in the morning and the snacks and refreshments would be displayed for eating and drinking on the ‘hunt’ table. Hunt Tables are almost always made of mahogany which was an expensive and exotic hardwood imported from Cuba and the West Indies. When not in use they would be put up against a wall with the leafs down and items would be displayed on top. This table is obviously a ‘hunt’ table because: (1) It is made of mahogany (2) the central section is not wide enough to safely hold at coffin at rest. We are of the firm opinion that this is in fact an Irish-made Hunt Table due top the legs and padded hoof feet which more closely resemble the feet one would find on an Irish Wake Table...

19C French Empire Style Complete Bedroom Set - Outstanding
Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING 19C French Empire Style Style Complete Bedroom Suite/Set. HIGHLY, IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE Empire Style Bedroom Suite or Set from circa 1880. The Suite/Set is almost completely original, save the bed, which was originally twin size, but professionally commissioned to be customized and converted into a Euro King Size for modern practicality. The quality of the conversion matches the quality of the suite/set. All pieces have gilt bronze mounted fittings; beautiful patina, beautiful parquetry; beautiful carrara marble tops, simply stunning! About 10 years ago, I saw the ‘identical twin’ of the Commode in an Antique Store on Central Park in New York, however it had a less desirable green marble top (IMHO), and they were looking for 30k USD for the Commode, on its OWN! This Suite/Set is SO GOOD that it is the main exhibit in our rear Showroom. Not marked but under the marble top of the commode there are 2 signatures in pencil (1) M. Le Youters (?) and (2) M. Daneels. You will NOT find another complete suite/set like this ANYWHERE! AS A BONUS: We have curated and sourced (recently) a Pair of Monumental French Empire Wall Sconces which are a ‘PERFECT’ match for this bedroom set! (See pics) These sconces are being sold separately BUT they really COMPLETE the entire bedroom! The Suite/Set includes: European King Size Bed (Headboard, Baseboard, side panels and central support bracket). 2 Matching Bedside...

Early 19th Century American Sheraton Tilt-Top Table of Neat Proportions
Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING a GORGEOUS Early 19C American Sheraton Tilt top Table of very desirable neat proportions. Made in America, possibly New York or New England, circa 1800. Made of Walnut, cherrywood and satinwood. The table is diamond in shape and the turned tripod base and feet appear to be made of walnut. The feet have beautifully simple, pointed toe feet …. ‘classic’ examples of ‘period’ American side tables of this Era! The square platform, attaching to the top to the base, has a brass catch/latch insert, with a ‘period’ brass button clasp on the underside of the table top, for the tilting mechanism. The square table top, itself, appears to be mainly cherry wood for the central square section, which in turn is then encased in a walnut square border and edged with a beautifully patinated striped satinwood. The central diamond on the table top is likewise a striped/burl satinwood of very high quality, edged with boxwood. There is a visible crack on the top and it appears that at some stage in its history, someone turned the table top 90 degrees, so that the baton supports underneath would support the weakened section with the crack. We have no doubt, however, that the top is original to the base and not a ‘marriage’, as the line (as one can see in the photos) on the base of the top where the batons were previously located perfectly matches the existing batons. The table is very ‘stable’ but the top (once locked in the down position) has a very slight lean towards the repaired cracked section. This is not significant and does not detract from the beauty and utility of this piece. We have, however, reflected these repairs, etc. in our pricing. It is also obvious, that the table was ‘always’ diamond shaped. It is the use of the cherry and walnut, coupled with the toe feet, that tells us, that this is ‘unmistakably’ an American Sheraton piece. Provenance: From an Outstanding Private Dallas Collection. Condition: Very good. See the full listing (above) for more detail on minor defects. Dimensions: 26.75 inches tall with top down, The table top is 17.2 inches x 17.8 inches With the top tilted it is 39.25 inches Tall and has a depth/width at the feet of 19.75 inches. Sheraton is a late 18th century neoclassical English furniture...
