Midcentury bed in patinated French oak by René Gabriel, France, 1940s. Published in 1944 and designed by René Gabriel, this bed dates back to the 1940s and is a typical example of so-called reconstruction furniture. The design of emergency products for war victims is simple and functional. The bed has a nice used patina and is in good vintage condition. 2 Beds available. René Gabriel (14 September 1890 – 30 October 1950) was a French decorative artist and designer specialising in furniture series (meuble de série). He had a clean, logical style that inspired many new designers in the years after World War II (1939–45). The prestigious Prix René Gabriel continues to be awarded to French designers for modern designs that can be mass-produced.
