Period French mahogany bed or Lit en Bateau
Will require a custom mattress set. Top top mattress would have a sleeping area of 78" x 51"
--Large scale palace bed attributed to Jacob Desmalter and created during the early Reign of the Emperor Napoleon, circa 1805. This magnificent bed boasts rare African Crotch Grain Front Panels while Also Using Amazing Plum Pudding Mahogany on the Sides, Inner Sides and on Its Finished Back. Bateau or Boat Shaped in Neoclassical Form with Original Ormolu Swan Mounts and High Relief Laurel Swags. The bed is supported on a platform with four well-executed dolphins in full relief.
Examples of similar Lit en Bateau by Jacob Desmalter have sold at Christies, Paris. We have the iron cross pieces that will support a custom mattress (and bolsters). The Bed Disassembles in Three sections--The pedestal base and each of the two sides. And Reassembles quickly with the uses of its bed bolts. Extremely sturdy and in remarkable condition.
