Pine Art Nouveau Box Bed
About the Item
This fine Art Nouveau example is certainly one of the most decorative pine beds we have ever offered for sale. The headboard is built in two parts. The lower part consists of a flat panel, framed with thick rails and stiles and hardwood mullions for contrast. The upper part is like a plaque with a bold crown molding above a frieze of diagonal strips. Beneath, two raised panels with hardwood mullions and floral carving in bas-relief, are flanked by fluted columns with acanthus leaf corbels. On each side is a shapely buttress bearing criss-cross decorative incisions.
The footboard is adorned in a similar way, repeating the themes of the headboard, except for an elaborately turned hardwood full column, laid horizontally across the top of the footboard crown. The sides are straight and the interior dimensions are approximately 71”x 36”, so a custom-sized mattress is required. This bed is one of a matched pair with 26VJL76b.
