About the Item
A late 19th Century, antique Italian Arte Povera pair of sculptural nightstands made of hand crafted painted Pinewood, in good condition. The detailed large bed side tables are composed with two drawers, particularized by round bronze handles. The Tuscan commodes, chests are consisting their original metal hardware and keys, standing on four round wooden legs. The arched cabinets are embellished by equal painted floral décor. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1870 - 1890, Tuscany, Italy.
This type of furniture was handmade by cabinet makers starting in the 1500's through the 1700's. The furniture was in fashion but was fairly expensive, due to the choice of wood (Walnut or Cherrywood). Therefore, the artisans were asked to fabricate the furniture in a less expensive way using wood types such as Pioppo or Fir.
