About the Item

A scarce antique European Biedermeier style single door pyramid bedside cabinet. Hand-crafted, featuring strong, high quality craftsmanship and solid wooden construction, exceptionally executed in rich exotic and lustrous highly figured satin birch. Examples of so-called "pyramid furniture" are extremely rare and require high skill, that can only be built by the best carpenters. Hand-crafted in Europe, possibly Scandinavia, during the second half of the 19th century, this exquisite cabinet presents with a square slanted top; sitting above a gently angled, pyramidal shaped case fitted with a single recessed panel cupboard door, adorned with original wood knob and wood inside latch; the door opening to reveal a spacious interior fitted with a single fixed shelf, offering convenient storage opportunities; finished on three side while the unfinished back retains plenty of antique character and charm, all rising on a plinth base. This mesmerizing piece shows an absolute gorgeous grain from nearly every angle thanks to its fantastic finishing work and superb grain detail, while the scarce flaring, graduated form adds a unique level of sophistication. This European antique, circa 1875, is sure to bring a touch of subdued elegance, rustic warmth, character and charm to any bedroom or living room! Provenance / Acquisition: Acquired from the highly curated contents of antique dealers, Ed and Jane Grant, who retired after four decades in the industry. The couple supplied both their Washington metro based antique shop, Grant Antiques, and their very fine quality Connecticut showcase, E.J. Grant Antiques, with domestic and imported pieces. World travelers who especially loved European antiques, sourced their merchandise during their frequent buying trips to Europe and Asia and included purchases originating in France, the British Isles, Italy, Spain, and beyond. Acquired from the reputable auction house Blackrock Galleries, Greenwich, Connecticut Dimensions: (approx) 30.5" High, 14.25" Wide, 14.25" Deep As warm and handsome as it is useful, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of uses, including as a nightstand, side table, decorative arts pedestal, trumeau (pillar), plant stand, hall table and more. Condition: This cabinet is in wonderful shape, presents splendidly, having beautifully aged patina over the whole, with a mellow, warm, lustrous sheen. Very well made, sturdy, stable and structurally sound, having expected minor wear consistent with age, including some highly desirable alligatoring, craquelure, checking (fine splits), enhancing the beauty but now preserved to protect the finishs integrity. Delivered cleaned, hand waxed polished patina, ready for immediate use and generational enjoyment!
