Beautiful, exposed interlocking dovetail joints run along the table edge, highlighting the precise craftsmanship required to construct each piece. The Fen Collection is a celebration of cultural heritage and joinery techniques refined over generations. Quiet, minimal, yet steeped in the tradition of Chinese joinery that is our studio’s hallmark, the Fen Collection is handcrafted from solid furniture grade BambooTimbre™ made with 100% Moso bamboo and utilizes Maria Yee’s own proprietary bamboo joinery system developed over years of research and continuous improvements. Built around linear planes and showcasing dovetail joints between planked surfaces, quiet details allow the richness of the bamboo and hand-crafted tree seed oil-based finish to speak volumes. Maria Yee is a California contemporary furniture design studio established in 1988 with a focus on wellness, material, and craft. Maria, the studio's eponymous founder, began her design journey in the early 1980s in Beijing, where she studied classical Chinese joinery with a master craftsman who restored furniture for the Forbidden City. Over the course of three decades, she would redefine and reengineer the joinery techniques, operate her own factories, and nurture her own design studio. All elements matter at Maria Yee – from responsibly managing forests, fostering new growth to ecologically produced luxurious leathers to meticulously hand forged metal pulls. The brand works hard to sustainably source quality materials and to apply insistently honed techniques to breathe new life into classical craftsmanship.
