About the Item

George II concave mahogany commode An exceptional Georgian mahogany tray-top commode of unusually large scale and quality. The raised gallery pierced to the sides to form a pair of handles, the front of deep concave form with panelled front and moulded legs. The commode slide, with oval brass handle, pulls out on roller castors to an oak lined seat, with oak lid and ceramic liner. The sides and back are also panelled, both sides with a cupboard opening to an internal space for storage, each with original axe head handles and locking catches. Polished and panelled on all four sides so it is not a piece of furniture to be consigned to the walls of a room. Stands on roller castors. The proportions, being substantially larger than other Georgian commodes, the quality of timber, detail of the design, together with the finesse in the moulded legs and gallery denote that this was a piece of furniture commissioned for a house and owner of stature, preserved with original handles and exceptional colour. English, circa 1760 If you require a shipping quote please contact us directly to discuss and we will get you the best price.
