About the Item
Architectural oak Pillar nightstands or end tables. Early European modernism inspired with a dash of Japanese minimalism - always focusing on the beauty of the materials. Designed by SUM furniture and handcrafted in England using traditional techniques from fine quartersawn English oak. Hand-cut oversized dovetail jointing with turned oak upright column piercing through the sections. These can also be used as end/occasional tables. They are substantial and striking pieces of handmade furniture - built to last. Finished in very durable Osmo oil.
We design bold and distinctive pieces of furniture – our main objective is combining the design alongside the natural beauty and properties of the raw materials. These timbers and materials are very carefully chosen for each specific design - maintaining our focus on the benefits, visual impact and strengths of what we use. Our regular use of English Quartersawn Oak is one case in point. It has been the beloved timber of fine furniture makers across the world for centuries. It is costly to produce but gives huge benefits and rewards such as its striking medullary rays and superb stability qualities. By utilising these wonderful and naturally occurring features with our contemporary designs we aim to continue creating some very distinct, tactile and idiosyncratic pieces. These are all completely handmade, in small sustainable numbers, by our skilled craftspeople in England.

Know what’s better than an exceptional oak end table with a cane and glass top? two of them!!!! That’s right, this is a wonderful pair of oak modern to post-modern end tables with caning under the glass insert tops. They have recessed pedestal bases, horizontal trim strips around their center, and stunning wood grain! We have been told they are in the style of Lou Hodges, but we haven’t found any proof to substantiate that claim. No matter, they are going to be beautiful in your living room beside your sofa or loveseat, or maybe in your bedroom as nightstands. Of course, they would also be lovely hosting plants or a fabulous pair of lamps...
