Set of 2 Night Stands by La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy, 1950's
Very elegantly executed set night stands by La Permanente Mobili Cantù in dark lacquered wood, cut glass and with nicely detailed brass feet. What stands out are the shapes of the nightstands and the materials that were used. There is a double layer of glass, the upper one is quite thick and nicely cut and blue coloured if you look from the sides, all in excellent condition with no chips or anything, and the second layer of glass underneath the upper layer, that has lightly coloured paper underneath, which was quite common in that period and that layer is also in very good condition.
There are lots of details such as how the glass is held together at the top. It falls into place very nicely and the glass is also very well protected in that way, that is why it is still in such a splendid and crisp condition. Nicely detailed woodwork in the upper corners.
The legs actually form a sort of spoilers at the sides that have all kinds of shapes and are kept in place by very nice brass screws. The same brass can be found back at the feet, that are so typical for Italy in that period and are one of the trade marks of Il Permanente Mobile Cantù.
Last but not least: the shape of the drawer forms the shape as the back plate with the same inward rounded edges. Great details to look at and I am sure that these nightstands will not get bored soon because of their highly luxurious execution.
