This exquisite and highly detailed wooden maquette, dating from the late 19th century, is a remarkable representation of the Pantheon in Paris. It stands as a significant example of Bonapartist art, crafted with extraordinary precision and attention to detail. The maquette is constructed from intricately cut, re-drilled, and assembled wood, designed to form a miniature model of a temple or church. The structure is crowned by a bronze figure of Emperor Napoleon I, which adds to its historical and artistic significance. The model features a complex architectural design, with four removable registers that allow for a detailed examination of the interior structure. The maquette’s dome is an impressive focal point, and at its base, the signature and date “M / J / A. Canet / L’an 1885” can be found, linking this work to the skilled artisan A. Canet.
