About the Item

An antique breccia marble Grand Tour model of a roman bath. Lion paws and a Portoro marble base display this Italian sculpture to showcase its elegant veining and impressive craftsmanship. Handcarved rings sit subtly to the outer sides while the paws look like they are almost gripping to the base. The expertly carved marble of the bath and base display excellent detail and a highly polished finish, making this the perfect sculpture for homes looking to add charm and appreciate the significance of its subject. Roman Baths Designed for relaxing and bathing, Roman baths were like modern day leisure centres with a wide range of rooms with different temperatures, as well as swimming pools, changing rooms, and places to socialise or read. This sculpture is a small element of what was once a common feature in cities throughout the Roman Empire; places that gave citizens of all classes the opportunity to relax, mingle, and chat amongst friends and acquaintances.
