About the Item

Japanese Wakizashi sword forged and signed by Kanefusa, a blacksmith from one of the great lineages of blacksmiths in the Mino region of Japan. The Edo period started in 1603 and ran until 1868. The authentication document or “origami” was issued by the NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai) which stands for the “Preservation of the Japan Art Sword”. It was founded in February 1948 as an authorized foundation by the government in order to save the Japanese sword from an “extinction” that was being caused by the Occupation Forces who tried to confiscate all Japanese swords from the Japanese people just after World War II. The official document for this sword is a “Tokubetsu Kicho Token” (Especially Precious), which started being issued from 1950. This one is dated October 27, 1963. Blade signed “Wasyu Jyu Kanefusa”. In excellent condition. DIMENSIONS Length: 26 in. (66 cm.) Blade length: 17.8 in. (45 cm.) Blade width: 1.2 in. (3 cm.) Blade curve: 0.4 in. (1.1 cm.) NOTE: The stand is a modern day reproduction and comes with the sword.
