The collected works of John Dryden, with notes, historical, critical and explanatory, and a life of the author by Walter Scott. The first Scott edition. Complete in eighteen volumes. Uniformly bound in full straight-grain morocco, retaining the half title and blanks. A comprehensive collection of works written by English poet, literary critic, playwright and translator, John Dryden. Known for his enormous contributions to the literature of Restoration England, Dryden was the first appointed Poet Laureate. This extensive collection features Dryden's poetry, plays, letters and various translations, as well as a memoir of his life by Walter Scott. Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I and a large folding plate to Volume VI. Collated, complete. With the bookplate of R. J. Lambton to each volume. Uniformly bound in full straight-grain morocco, retaining the half title and blanks. Endpapers renewed. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to extremities and joints, causing small cracks to joints. Hinges are slightly strained to most volumes, with the front hinge tender to I, II and XVII, and the rear hinge tender to I and VI. A small tear to the head of the front joint to I. A few light marks to boards. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spotting and light handling marks, mainly to the first and last few pages. Small tide mark to the corner of the first six pages of IV, including title page, although not affecting text. Light edge wear and a few spots to folding plate. Overall: Very Good

The book was printed in Paris by Hyppolite-Louis Guerin and in Dijon by Hermil-Andrea. It includes decorative typography and a royal privilege. 1- Oeuvres Diverses de Mr. Pierre Bayle, published in 1727 in The Hague (La Haye). The book is the third volume of Bayle’s works, focused on historical and critical topics. It was printed by multiple publishers, including P. Husson, T. Johnson, P.
