About the Item

A smartly bound first edition set of this brilliant history of the Royal Navy, complete with striking chromolithographs. The first edition. Complete in three volumes. An expansive study on the Royal Navy, as it was towards the end of the Victorian era, by the officer of the Indian Navy, Charles Rathbone Low. Volume I is illustrated with a chromolithograph frontispiece, a chromolithograph title, and fourteen chromolithograph plates. Volume II is illustrated with a chromolithograph frontispiece, a chromolithograph title, and twelve chromolithograph plates. Volume III is illustrated with a chromolithograph frontispiece, a chromolithograph title, and fourteen chromolithograph plates. Collated, complete. Illustrations are by W. Christian Symons and W. Fred Mitchell. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. A little light rubbing and a few small marks to the boards and spines. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with only a few scattered spots. Overall: Very Good Indeed
