Eighteen smart leather-bound volumes, containing the illustrated works of the enduringly popular Charles Dickens.
Twenty-five works in eighteen volumes, bound in half morocco bindings, with gilt detailing to the spines and marbled end papers. Top edges gilt.
A smart collection of Dickens' best-known works, full of his characteristically interesting and varied characters such as the unnerving Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, the loveable Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist, and the villainous Sir John in Barnaby Rudge. Also with Gilbert A. Pierce's The Dickens Dictionary.
All volumes are illustrated with an engraved frontispiece.

Ink inscription of Alice Healey, dated 19/9/03, to the half title page of The Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby, The Old Curiosity Shop, Dombey and Son, David Copperfield, Christmas Books, Christmas Stories, American Notes, Sketches by Boz, and The Dickens Dictionary, and to the first blank of Oliver Twist, Barnaby Rudge, Bleak House, Great Expectations, Our Mutual Friend, and Edwin Drood.
Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library.
In half morocco bindings. Externally very smart, with minimal rubbing to the spine and extremities. A little light soiling to the boards of 'David Copperfield' and to the front board of 'Great Expectations'. Spine is slightly cocked to 'Bleak House'. A touch of fading to the rear board of 'Sketches by Boz'. Internally, firmly bound. Marginal age toning to pages which are otherwise clean. Title page of 'Bleak House' is coming slightly loose to the tail.
