A beautiful and exceptionally bright leather set of these collected major works of William Hickling Prescott. Complete in twelve volumes. A set of the major works of William H. Prescott, including his most important histories and biographies: 'History of Ferdinand and Isabella', 'History of the Conquest in Mexico', 'History of the Conquest in Peru', 'Reign of Charles V', and 'Reign of Philip II'. William H. Prescott was an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognized as the first American scientific historian and one of the most eminent historians of his era. 'History of Ferdinand and Isabella', complete in two volumes. Both volumes are illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates. 'History of the Conquest in Mexico', complete in two volumes. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, in addition to two folding maps to Volume I, and two plates to Volume II. 'History of the Conquest in Peru', complete in two volumes. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, in addition to one folding map to Volume I, and one plate to Volume II. 'Reign of Charles V', complete in two volumes. Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I. 'Reign of Philip II', complete in three volumes. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, in addition to one folding plate, one folding map, and one plate to Volume I, two plates to Volume II, and one plate to Volume III. 'Biographical and Critical Miscellanies', complete in one volume. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Collated, complete. Edited with the author’s latest corrections by John Foster Kirk. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Leeds Library. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Spines are a touch faded. Spots to the fore edges. A small amount of wear to the front joint of 'Charles V' Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spots. Overall: Fine
