An exceptionally handsome twenty-four volume set of the works of the Russian novelist, including both 'Anna Karenina' and 'War and Peace'. An exceptionally beautiful twenty-four volume set of Leo Tolstoy's major works, in the vibrant publisher's cloth of Scribner's. With volumes published between 1907 and 1911, this set features fifteen works bound in twenty-four volumes. Present here are: Volumes I-VI, 'War and Peace' Volumes VII-IX, 'Anna Karenina' Volume X, 'Childhood, Boyhood, Youth' Volume XI, 'The Cossacks of Sevastopol' Volume XII, 'The Invaders and Other Stories' Volume XIII, 'A Russian Proprietor and Other Stories' Volume XIV, 'The Death of Ivan Ilyitch and Other Stories' Volume XV, 'The Long Exile and Other Stories' Volume XVI, 'Master and Man, The Kreutzer Sonata, Dramas' Volume XVII, 'My Confession, My Religion, The Gospel in Brief' Volume XVIII, 'What is to be Done?, Life' Volume XIX, 'The Kingdom of God is Within You' Volume XX, 'What is Art? What is Religion?' Volumes XXI and XXII, 'Essays, Letters and Miscellanies' Volumes XXIII and XXIV, 'Resurrection' Illustrated with a frontispiece on Japanese vellum to each volume, and retaining the original half title to each volume. With the neat former owner's inscription of Katie King to the front free endpaper of volumes XIV, XXI and XXIII. An exceptionally lovely set of the works of the famed Russian novelist. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with gilt detailing to spines. Externally, fine, with just a touch of fading of the gilt to the tail of volumes X and XIV, and a small area of rubbing towards the head of volume V back strip. Front hinge of volume I lightly strained, and the head of the rear hinge of volume II lightly strained. Rear hinges of volumes VIII, IX, XIX, and XXI strained and a touch tender. Inscription to front free endpaper of volumes XIV, XXI and XXIII. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Overall: Near Fine

Very scarce to see Blackmore's works in a set. Smartly bound in a half morocco binding by W. J. Mansell. This smart set includes almost the complete works of Blackmore. Blackmore was one of the most famous novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century, best remember today for his 'Lorna Doone'.
