About the Item

1925, Les Années-Mémoire (1925, The Memory Years), French book by Editions Larousse, 1988. Relive the year 1925 as if you were there. This volume will make you relive, with emotion, the facts and events of the interwar period. That year, in France, we heard everywhere humming, "When We Are Two, It's Not The Same Thing" by Maurice Chevalier. Street music and music hall contribute to a good mood. And yet, the economic situation is hardly smiling, and the French government knows many setbacks: in April, Edouard Herriot yields his place as president of the Council to Paul Painlevé, and in October, Aristide Briand, in his turn, replaces it. Inflation in Germany is still rife, and the mark value is almost zero. 1925 is also rich in artistic and sporting events. American crews completed the first circumnavigation of the globe by plane in 175 days. French actor Michel Simon made his first appearance in Marcel L'Herbier's film "Feu Mathias Pascal." Classical music is not to be outdone, Maurice Ravel composes Tzigane, and Honegger triumphs with his King David. A new phenomenon, sport fascinates more and more French people and attracts many followers. Our tennis players excel at Wimbledon while the All Blacks come to give us a rugby lesson. In Monaco, we happily celebrate Louis II's election and the baptism of his son Rainier. Considerable research work was done on archive images, documents never seen and finally found, and faithfully reproduced period images to make you relive this year 1925. This is a beautiful coffee table art book. Features: Title: 1925, Les Années-Mémoire. Author: Collectif Editions Larousse. Hardcover book. Secret and Unusual Paris, French Book by Rodolphe Trouilleux, 2003
By Modern History

Paris Secret et Insolite (Secret and Unusual Paris), French book by Rodolphe Trouilleux. Under the cobblestones, surprises: forgotten dead-ends, a cloister converted into workshops, a real-fake medieval house, the slabs of the guillotine, a 17th-century metro, a mineral water fountain, a tiny house, a miraculous Vespasian, a chapel in spare parts, Russian isbas, hidden gardens, revolutionary inscriptions, a forgotten cannonball, a working-class town in the upscale neighborhoods, a fashionable ox, abandoned convents, a washhouse facade, a bastion on the fortifications, an itinerant chapel, a pierced castle, sleeping villas, a lemon tree in a telephone booth, that's Paris! The French capital has not finished revealing its mysteries: a Palladian villa, a 15th-century tower, an acclimatization square, rats nibbling on a facade, an old Protestant cemetery, a medieval sign...
