1986 Five Original Illustrations for 'When the Wind Blows' by Raymond Briggs

About the Item

Five original concept storyboard illustrations by artist and illustrator Raymond Briggs, for his animated film 'When the Wind Blows'. A fantastic collection of five original graphite on paper illustrations by Raymond Briggs, the illustrator, cartoonist, graphic novelist and author best known for 'The Snowman', and the subsequent animation of it. These five original illustrations are for the storyboard of the 1986 adult animated disaster film 'When the Wind Blows', based on Briggs's pre-existing graphic novel of the same name. The illustrations are mounted in sequential order, with typeset script mounted directly beneath each illustration, with these lines of script numbered 11-15. The Meltdown Productions film was illustrated by Briggs himself, and directed by Jimmy Murakami. The film depicts the humorous and poignant story of the Bloggses, and their reaction to the news of an imminent nuclear attack on Britain by the Soviet Union. Briggs based the retired couple on his own parents. These illustrations are mounted on card, and protected with a plastic wrap. Original illustrations by Briggs are scarce, making this storyboard all the more fascinating. Four original graphite on paper illustrations, mounted in sequential order on backing card, wrapped in protective plastic wrap. Illustrations bright, with light handling marks, likely those of Briggs himself. Small pin holes to head of each illustration, not affecting the illustrations themselves. Typescript mounted below each illustration. To the reverse, the plastic wrap has been taped to the board, with evidence of attempted tape removal apparent. Overall: Near Fine
