1993 The Collected Works of Oscar Wilde

About the Item

A very attractive collection of works from popular Irish poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde, edited by his friend and literary executor, Robert Ross. A lovely selection of the plays, poetry and additional prose of Oscar Wilde. Complete in fifteen volumes, uniformly bound in the original blue cloth. Edited by Robert Ross, a British journalist, art critic and art dealer, best known for his devoted friendship to Wilde and to whom he was literary executor. Ross remained loyal to Wilde during his last years, offering emotional and financial support to him during his imprisonment and staying with him when he died in Paris in 1900. This set includes some of Wilde's most identifiable works, such as his controversial gothic novel, 'Picture of Dorian Gray', and his four-act comedy, 'Lady Windermere's Fan', following a woman who suspects of her husband's affair. With other miscellaneous writing such as his literary reviews, and a bibliography by Stuart Mason, which is illustrated throughout. A superb set of mostly first editions of the novels of R. D. Blackmore, a nice set uncommon to see of the late Victorian's writings. Fourteen works by R. D. Blackmore in thirty-five volumes. Very scarce to see Blackmore's works in a set. Smartly bound in a half morocco binding by W. J. Mansell. This smart set includes almost the complete works of Blackmore. Blackmore was one of the most famous novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century, best remember today for his 'Lorna Doone'. This set includes; 'Clara Vaughan', complete in three volumes, published in 1864. The very scarce first edition. Half-title is present to each volume. Original publisher's cloth bound in the rear of each volume. Two pages of adverts to the rear of Volume III. 'Cradock Nowell', complete in three volumes, published in 1866.
