About the Item

An exceptionally scarce, signed copy of Neal Martin's definitive book on Pomerol, the smallest of Bordeaux's five fine wine-making regions. The first edition. Signed by the author to the title page. Very scarce work. A comprehensive study of the French wine-growing commune, Pomerol, the smallest of the five major fine wine making regions of Bordeaux. Unlike many other communes of the region, there is no real village of Pomerol, with the houses of the inhabitants set entirely within the vineyard. With a relatively small, yet exceptionally highly rated output, many Pomerol wines now fetch very high prices at wine auctions. Written by Neal Martin, an English wine critic and author, known for this award-winning study of Pomerol, and for founding the Wine Journal periodical. Martin compiled this detailed account over three years. Martin provides an in-depth analysis of Pomerol's viticulture and history, alongside his own interpretation of its terroir. The work contains forty-three detailed profiles of Pomerol estates and interviews with all the major proprietors of the estates. Also included is an account of wine tastings conducted, an "A-Z of Pomerol" and a vintage guide from 1945. Illustrated with numerous photographs taken by Johan Berglund, and a number of hand-drawn maps by proprietors. Condition Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Signed to title page. Overall: Fine
