About the Item

Alexandre Reza: Dreams of Yesterday Realities of To-day is a book about the life and work of Alexandre Reza, a Paris-based jeweler known for his diverse and rare collection of precious gemstones. Large hardcover coffee table book written by Arlette Seta, who was Reza's personal assistant for many years. Editions d'art Monelle Hayot 1984. Dimensions: 12" x 8 1/2". Alexandre Reza (November 1, 1922 January 15, 2016) was a Paris-based jeweler known for his diverse and rare collection of precious gemstones. He is lauded as the greatest gem collector of modern times. The book begins with a brief biography of Reza, tracing his early life and career in jewelry. Reza was born in 1922 to a family of jewelers. He showed an early interest in gemstones, and by the age of 16 he was already working in his family's jewelry business. In 1947, Reza opened his own jewelry shop in Paris. His work quickly gained attention for its use of rare and unusual gemstones, as well as its innovative designs. The book then goes on to explore Reza's collection of gemstones. Reza was a passionate collector, and he amassed a collection of over 10,000 stones during his lifetime. The collection included some of the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world, such as the Hope Diamond, the Blue Moon of Josephine, and the Daria-I-Noor diamond. The book also features interviews with some of Reza's friends and colleagues, who share their memories of him and his work. These interviews provide a valuable glimpse into Reza's personality and his approach to jewelry design. Alexandre Reza: Dreams Of Yesterday Realities Of To-Day is a fascinating book that provides a unique look at the life and work of one of the most important jewelers of the 20th century. The book is beautifully illustrated with photographs of Reza's jewelry and his gemstone collection. It is a must-read for anyone interested in jewelry, gemstones, or design. The Spiritual in Art Abstract Painting 1890-1985 Book
Located in North Hollywood, CA
The Spiritual in Art: Abstract Painting 1890-1985 Art Book. Judi Freeman, Carel Blotkamp Abbeville Press, 1987 - Art - 435 pages. Paperback. Traces the use of geometric signs by the Nabis and other French artists and relates this to the development of abstraction. The author describes some of the sources of ideas about the symbolism of geometric signs, in particular the writings of Helena P. Blavatsky, and traces the impact of these on the Nabis, possibly through the stimulus of Gauguin whose paintings from his Brittany period encouraged a mystical conception of art in which sacred geometry figured as one component. By demonstrating the huge impact of mysticism and the occult on 20th-century artists from Gauguin to Pollack, Mondrian to O'Keefe, this work effectively refutes the popular fallacy that modernism is concerned solely with line, form, and color. He goes on to discuss in detail the paintings of Paul Serusier, Paul Ranson...
