Washington: The Master Mind of a Child of Slavery by Frederick E. Drinker. This book was published by the National Publishing Co. in Philadelphia, in 1915, right after Washington’s passing. Beautifully illustrated with photographs throughout, this edition offers a richly-detailed portrait of this important figure in American history. The book is presented rebound in ¼ black leather and cloth binding, with raised bands, gilt titles, and gilt tooling to the spine, and a new archival cloth slipcase to match. Frederick T. Drinker's biography delves into the fascinating life and accomplishments of Booker T. Washington. Through careful research and a compelling narrative style, Drinker brings to life Washington's rise from slavery to become one of the most influential thinkers and educational leaders of his time. Readers will learn of his role founding Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (now Tuskegee University) in 1881 and the National Negro Business League two decades later, as well as how Washington advised Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. The book emphasizes Washington's philosophy of self-help, the importance of education and entrepreneurship, and also discusses the struggles and achievements of African Americans after the Civil War.
