“A Checklist of American Coverlet Weavers” book by John Heisey. Williamsburg: The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation,1986. Third printing hardcover with no dust jacket as issued. 149 pp. A beautiful directory of American coverlet weavers compiled by the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art centre in Williamsburg Virginia. Because of a revolutionary loom attachment called 'The Jacquard Mechanism,' introduced in 1830, the art of printing intricate patterns was born. This new art provides an intriguing visual record of folk motifs, such as animals, birds, flowers, sunburst, humans, and buildings. The coverlets and their weavers are the subject of this fascinating book. Still the best resource on the subject.
