The exhibit was first presented at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, Paris, Feb. 9 - May 16, 1988; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, June 16 - Aug. 28, 1988; and finally at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, Sept. 27, 1988 - Jan. 8, 1989.
The catalogue comprehensively covers every aspect of the artist's career, including his paintings, pastels, drawings, monotypes, prints, photographs, and sculpture.
A first Edition and First Printing of a compilation of Degas'work divided into four sections, each one based on a corresponding period in Degas life:his work as a student in Rome until his 1872 trip to New Orleans, early maturity 1873-1881, mid career 1881-1890 and late work, 1891-1912.392 paintings throughout. Brown cloth boards in good condition with gilt writing on the binding. 640 unmarked pages.
Essays by Jean Sutherland Boggs, Henri Loyrette, Michael Pantazzi, Douglas W. Druick & Peter Zegers, and Gary Tinterow.
