A true collector’s piece, one of the rarest and most stunning Issey Miyake books, published in the mid-80s, at the height of his creative processes. With large-format folio pages and superb illustrations.
“Nuno to ishi no uta” - Poems of cloth and stone, Issey Miyake’s awareness of design and sense of space characterised his fashion house. Miyake’s signature pleats were only reified in the late 1980s, by the time of publication, he was experimenting with new methods of pleating which would allow flexibility of movement and ease of care for modern wearers. This fact endows this book with near historical importance in charting Issey Miyake’s design journey. Absorbing influence widely from artists and designers ranging from the East to the West with no particular affiliations, he divested himself from either East or West labels. Fond of Isamu Noguchi and Madeleine Vionnet, friends of Lucie Rie, Miyake’s oeuvre shows a confluence of his life’s grand voyage.
