About the Item

Rare collectible volume - 496 pages, hundreds of pictures, original edition This important anthology monograph devoted to Miguel Berrocal is a fundamental work for collectors, scholars, and enthusiasts of contemporary art and kinetic sculpture. Published in 1984 by the Ministry of Culture-Directorate General of Fine Arts and Archives on the occasion of a major retrospective, the publication comprehensively documents the work of the celebrated Spanish artist. The 496-page volume is illustrated with hundreds of black-and-white and color images, and contains plans, sketches, technical diagrams and detailed assembly and disassembly instructions for many of his famous modular sculptures. Berrocal is known for his unique vision of sculpture as a decomposable organism between art, engineering and play: this publication fully restores its complexity and innovation. Language: Spanish (with universal images) Contents: Photographs, technical drawings, color plates, critical texts Conservation status: Good (dedication signature on first page, not author's) Rarity: Out of print, highly sought after by collectors of twentieth-century art and design Biographical note on Miguel Berrocal Miguel Ortiz Berrocal (1933-2006) was one of the most original and visionary sculptors of the 20th century. Born in Villanueva de Algaidas, Spain, he has combined art, mathematics and mechanics in his work, creating modular and decomposable works that challenge the conventions of traditional sculpture. His sculptures, often small in size and surprisingly complex, are designed to be taken apart piece by piece, as if they were three-dimensional puzzles. Berrocal has exhibited in the world's most important museums and galleries, and his works are part of the collections of MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. His work has profoundly influenced the dialogue between art, design and technology.
