Paris in the Thirties, French Book by Jacques Lanzmann, 1987
About the Item
Paris des Années 30, (Paris in The Thirties), French Book by Jacques Lanzmann, 1987.
Numerous photographs in black and white from the Keystone press agency in Paris illustrating the text by Jacques Lanzmann
Our postmodern eighties have doom and gloom, or melancholy for the thirties. The Thirties were years of illusion, during which Paris distinguished itself between the two wars and out of time. This book presents a thousand facets of the reflection of this scintillating chaos.
From the roof of the world, Jacques Lanzmann descends from the Butte Montmartre to the Bastille Place in the footsteps of Nini Peau de Chien (Nini Dog-Skin), to Longchamp racecourse, in the wake of "Madame la Marquise" ... An almost modern Paris with its ads, its soup kitchens (now "restos du cœur"), its Fouquet's, its Eiffel Tower, its Auto Show, its eternal Luxembourg Garden, its National Day Balls (July 14), etc.
This is a beautiful coffee table art book.

Paris Secret et Insolite (Secret and Unusual Paris), French book by Rodolphe Trouilleux.
Under the cobblestones, surprises: forgotten dead-ends, a cloister converted into workshops, a real-fake medieval house, the slabs of the guillotine, a 17th-century metro, a mineral water fountain, a tiny house, a miraculous Vespasian, a chapel in spare parts, Russian isbas, hidden gardens, revolutionary inscriptions, a forgotten cannonball, a working-class town in the upscale neighborhoods, a fashionable ox, abandoned convents, a washhouse facade, a bastion on the fortifications, an itinerant chapel, a pierced castle, sleeping villas, a lemon tree in a telephone booth, that's Paris!
The French capital has not finished revealing its mysteries: a Palladian villa, a 15th-century tower, an acclimatization square, rats nibbling on a facade, an old Protestant cemetery, a medieval sign...

Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style Book by Franck Ferrand 1999
By Jacques Garcia
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style Hardcover Book by Franck Ferrand 1999. Jacques Garcia Decorating In The French Style, is a reference in term of French Decoration Style.Pubished in 2005, this version is the Original publication which was later modified. After designing private interiors for distinguished clients worldwide, Jacques Garcia subsequently set about decorating some of the most popar establishments in Paris - from the Hotel Costes, the Laduree tearoom on the Champs Elysees and the new Fouquet's, to the brasserie La Grande Armee and L'Avenue. But his masterpiece is the Norman chateau Le Champ de Bataille, in which every detail contributes to the formation of a new style: the Garcia style.Jacques Garcia is one of the most fashionable interior designers in France today. Parisians flock to the tables of the exclusive Hotel Costes he designed near the place Vendome, and the famous tea room Laduree on the Champs Elysees to dine and be seen in his elegant and atmospheric fin-de-siecle salons. Garcia counts among his private clients royalty, actors, piticians and businessmen from New York to Beirut, but he is just as much at home refurbishing museums (musee Carnavalet, musee de la Vie Romantique) and palace hotels and casinos in Deauville or Baden-Baden.
Neoclassicism, Orientalism and Empire Revival are his decorative landmarks. In deliberate opposition to the post-modern spaces designed by wunderkind Philippe Starck in the early 90s, Garcia is passionate about the past, but his is not a dry historicism. He is a master at mixing texture, pattern and cor. His re-created rooms seem to bear the traces of generations, but are in fact the product of his inspired and irreverent imagination and attention to detail. The magnificent, ongoing restauration and decoration of his Normandy chateau, Champs de Bataille, attracts visitors from the world over and is a monument to his art and creativity.Stunningly illustrated, this sumptuous vume will appeal to anyone interested in interior decoration and provides a privileged look into the exclusive world of French elegance and style. In mid-career, Jacques Garcia invites us to explore an oeuvre in continuous development in which the marvels of the past have been revisited with an eye to the present. A magician of mood, Garcia is expert at keeping spectators spellbound. Here, extensively illustrated, is the first work entirely devoted to this outstanding interior designer. In it we share the joys to be derived from a certain art of living a la francaise, in the timeless tradition of the "grand style".
A thirty-year career has made Jacques Garcia a worldwide name in interior design in the French tradition. In Paris, chic crowds flock to his celebrated Hétel Costes and Ladurée tearoom, and to his many fin de siécle brasseries. Garcia's designs also grace the interiors of the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée de la Vie Romantique and his most recent tour de force is the restoration of Paris Hotel Mansart. Garcia's most ambitious project to date, the refurbishment of the Chateau du Champ...

“The Paris Salons”, 1895-1914 Furniture ‘Book’
Located in Montelabbate, PU
This is the third in a multi-volume collection providing a visual catalogue record of the decorative arts of the Paris Salons. Included in this volume are reproductions of the catalogue illustrations of furniture at the Exposition Universelle of 1900, the annual Salons du Mobilier, and the celebrated 1903 and 1904 expositions of the Ecole de Nancy in the French capital. This chronological record clearly shows the revolution in furniture design that transpired in France at the turn of the century. The illustrations trace precisely the emergence of the art nouveau style in the 1890s, its high point between the 1900 Exposition Universelle and the 1903 Salons, its demise between 1905-1909, the return to period revivalism and the transitional art nouveau - art deco style of 1910-1912 with the proto - art deco style of the immediate pre-war years (1911-1914). Many examples of non-art nouveau works from the period are also included. Hundreds of these contemporary illustrations...
