Provence Style
Decorating with French Country Flair
By: Shauna Varvel
With Alexandra Black
An intimate tour of quintessential Provencal style, featuring chic homes and interior details inspired by this picturesque region.
Thirty years after Peter Mayle documented his farmhouse renovation in bestseller A Year in Provence, the French southeast continues to seduce interior design devotees. But the era of colorful rusticity and shabby chic has since been replaced by a far more nuanced approach in line with contemporary tastes and needs. Provence Style showcases this new direction, featuring Shauna Varvel’s eighteenth-century Rhône valley farmhouse—Le Mas des Poiriers—as an exemplar. Named for the working pear orchard on the grounds, the property was reimagined by Varvel and noted local architect Alexandre Lafourcade, who transformed an outdated structure into a luxurious and contemporary expression of Provençal style. Alexandre’s mother, renowned landscaper Dominique Lafourcade, designed the extensive gardens. With her exquisite home serving as an archetypal starting point, Varvel goes on to explore the architectural and interior elements that are part of the reinvented Provençal aesthetic. Featuring a selection of homes created by noted interior designers, Provence Style beautifully illustrates the textures, furnishings, fabrics, color pairings, motifs, and accents that define each area, from kitchens, living spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms to garden terraces and courtyards.

Decorating with Carpets
A Fine Foundation
By: Ashley Stark Kenner and Chad Stark
with Heather MacIsaac
In decoration, a carpet’s influence is never outsized. In fact, more than any other element of a room, and as the largest and most expensive component of any design scheme, the effect a carpet has on a space is every bit as great as its size. Decorators have long recognized the importance of a fine carpet, its impact on the colors and textures of a space, its contribution to creating an atmosphere, its feel of luxury, and, with the best examples, its lasting value. Despite their essential role as the bedrock of any design scheme, beautiful carpets have lived in the shadows of recognition. Decorating with Carpets: A Fine Foundation aims to change that oversight, tapping the extensive and remarkable archive of Stark Carpet for interior design’s greatest examples. Over the course of its 75 years, Stark Carpet, the premier purveyor of carpets to the trade in the country, has worked with the each era’s most notable designers, from Billy Baldwin and Dorothy Draper to Sister Parish and Albert Hadley to Mark Hampton and Mario Buatta to contemporary leading lights such as Diamond Baratta, Victoria Hagan, Katie Ridder, and Stephen Gambrel...

Nora Murphy’s Country House Style
Making Your Home a Country House
By: Nora Murphy
with Deborah Golden
Photography by DuAnne Simon
“Nora Murphy is in a country state of mind. The founder of Connecticut Country House, a venture that encompasses an online magazine and blog about all things country, her dedication goes way beyond milk paints and Americana crafts. Instead, the former Executive Vice President of Style at Ethan Allen has built a business and a lifestyle around embracing the concept of the country house.” —Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Nora Murphy has turned her passion for country house style and its embodiment—her own home in Newtown, Connecticut—into a multimedia juggernaut. Her blog, website, e-magazine, strong presence on social media, and increasing visibility in print media and on TV have earned her a devoted following all over the country and around the world. And now she has distilled the essence of her knowledge about the fundamentals of country house style and how to achieve it in this irresistible volume. In the introduction, Murphy lays out the universal elements of country house style: creating a place where everyone is always welcome; where comfort is always in style; where there’s always room for our favorite things; where there’s always a reason to celebrate; where we honor tradition by changing it up; where home extends well beyond our walls. The body of the book shows how the elements of this comfortable, comforting, easy aesthetic and approach to life can be applied in different ways and in different locations to striking, individual effect. Murphy features six homes, beginning with her own, each of which expresses a unique take on the style, from elegant country to English cottage country to vintage farmhouse country to historical country. Part primer, part wish book, Nora Murphy’s Country House Style, illustrated entirely with specially commissioned photography, is all inspiration.
Nora Murphy studied interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and founded her own interior design and architectural and product illustration...

At Home in France: Inspiration and Style in Town and Country
Located in New York, NY
Author Timothy Corrigan, with Michael Boodro
In his third book, AD100 and Elle Decor A-List designer Corrigan shares the joys of decorating and living in his Paris apartment and new chateau infectiously inspiring us to design à la française.
Having a nineteenth-century apartment in Paris steps from the Trocadero and Eiffel Tower is a dream. So is owning an eighteenth-century chateau in the French countryside known as the “Versailles of the fields.” Having both? That’s the dreamy escapism found in designer Corrigan’s new book, which will enchant Francophiles and design lovers alike with its rich trove of ideas for anyone wanting to decorate in a French-inspired style.
In the first section of the book, Corrigan invites readers into his dazzling Paris apartment, walking them through the history of the building and his design plans, from the entryway through the salons, dining room, and bedrooms. In the second part, Corrigan shares his enduring love for French country homes. Traveling through his spectacular new château room by room, he tells the story of its purchase, restoration, and decoration. Layered throughout are insights and advice on topics ranging from antiquing in Paris, hanging art in the French style, hosting with panache, and exploring the French countryside.
With gorgeous new photography commissioned for the book, this volume is a must for everyone who dreams of living in France and bringing French chic into their own lives.
