Signori di Maremma. Elites Etrusche Fra Populonia E Il Vulcente, 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket exhibition catalog. The catalog of the exhibition from 14 June to 31 October 2009 at the Archaeological and Art Museum of Maremma in Grosseto. This catalog from the Museum of Archeology and Art in Grosseto presents the Etruscan historical period from the seventh to the sixth century B.C., characterized by an "Orientalizing" influence from Middle Eastern works brought into the region as well as the concentration of wealth and territorial control in the hands of the elite family groups. Color illustrations and descriptions accompany the various works chosen. Focus in the ancient history of the Maremma area, between the seventh and sixth centuries BC, which corresponds to the height of the Etruscan civilization. It is a moment characterized by a cultural thinking that takes the name of 'orientalizing' for the taste that pervades in ancient Italy to accept, research and reproduce models from the Near East. From the point of view of the social order, the analyzed period is identified with the emergence of large and small aristocracies in the various Etruscan centers of the Maremma. In the hands of a few family groups, gentes, and their leaders, the principles, who hold control of the territories and their resources. The great wealth is from the circulation of goods from all over the Mediterranean. To illustrate the issue, five territories were chosen, each in its own way exemplary, between the Upper and Lower Tuscan Maremma: Populonia, Vetulonia, Roselle, Marsiliana d'Albegna and Pitigliano-Poggio Buco. A full color illustrated sheet with all the information regarding the date of creation, the origin with the destinations and the current place of conservation is dedicated to each object presented.
