Stated first edition softcover. 245 pp. A comprehensive overview of Surrealist art from one of the finest and most famous collections ever assembled. The core of this collection, now housed at The Art Institute of Chicago, with 116 works in a wide range of media, from drawings and collages to paintings and sculptures. The thirty-three artists represented include Jean Arp, Andre Breton, Leonora Carrington, Joseph Cornell, Salvador Dali, Jean Dubuffet, Max Ernst, Wilfredo Lam, Rene Magritte, Joan Miro, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, and Yves Tanguy. All of the exhibits are reproduced in full color. Each entry is accompanied by information on provenance, literature, and exhibition history, as well as a knowledgeable commentary.
