About the Item

Tadao Ando Venice: The Pinault Collection at the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta Della Dogana by Philip Jodidio. Published by Skira Rizzoli, NY, 2014. Hardcover with dust jacket. The acclaimed renovation of two of Venice’s most revered landmarks by the master architect for François Pinault’s unmatched contemporary art collection. Long acknowledged as a master builder of art spaces, Tadao Ando faced a new constructional challenge with the renovation of two of Venice’s iconic buildings—and succeeded brilliantly. Approached by French magnate François Pinault to renovate two disparate but equally high-profile and challenging Venetian structures to house his peerless collection of contemporary art—the Palazzo Grassi and the Punta della Dogana—Ando deftly employed his signature process to produce two elegant interiors from highly complicated historic sites. At the Palazzo Grassi, prominently located on the Grand Canal, Ando’s quiet but expert renovation of the eighteenth-century rooms harmonizes contemporary art with historical Venetian spaces. At the Punta della Dogana, the Venetian Republic’s original customs warehouse, the large-scale space was subtly subdivided into refined rooms for installation art. The overall effect of the two different renovations is a harmony of old and new, of history and innovation—a result that can only be from the hands of Tadao Ando. NPT Books, a division of Trent Antiques, has a large collection of used and out of print books on art, architecture, decoration and antiques with a focus on 1st editions, signed and limited editions.

Koichi Takada: Architecture, Nature, and Design
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Author Koichi Takada, Text by Philip Jodidio The first monograph on the Japanese-born, Sydney-based architect, celebrated for his innovative holistic approach to design, nature, and urbanism. Koichi Takada is part of a new generation of architects striving to bring nature back into the urban environment—an approach he developed after living in Tokyo, New York, and London. His architecture reconnects people to the natural environment, drawing inspiration from organic forms and local contexts. This elegant volume showcases a series of Takada’s recent projects, illustrating the unique way his talent connects the natural and the designed, and how it has evolved over the last ten years. Beautiful photographs of buildings and interiors juxtapose against sketches and images of nature—illustrating the aesthetic inspirations behind the designs and the way they embody light, air, and even sound. Philip Jodidio’s texts guide readers through the range of spaces that span from the interiors of the award-winning National Museum of Qatar in Doha and Urban Forest in Brisbane, the “greenest residential building in Australia,” to striking buildings in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, China, and the construction of a new space in Tokyo. This unique architectural journey will inspire readers to see architecture with a new mindset. About The Author Koichi Takada graduated from AA School of Architecture, London, and established his own practice, Koichi Takada Architects, in 2008. Philip Jodidio is a specialist in contemporary architecture. Architecture, Not Architecture Diller Scofidio + Renfro
Located in New York, NY
The first comprehensive monograph on the cross-disciplinary practice including over 100 built and ephemeral works Since its founding in 1981, New York-based studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) has designed some of the world’s most revered civic spaces and cultural institutions. Their practice covers architecture, urban design, installation art, performance, digital media, and print. From the renowned High Line in New York City to the upcoming V&A East Storehouse in London to some of their earliest projects like the Blur building designed for the 2002 Swiss Expo, DS+R explores alternative strategies in space-making that engage and surprise on a global scale. Designed by DS+R as a pair of structurally conjoined volumes, this monograph invites readers to bridge different modes of production and reconsider the limits of architecture. The unique binding allows each volume to be read individually or in parallel by unfolding the book at the spine. Special crossover layouts link the two volumes with shared obsessions. The monograph features layouts by design consultancy 2x4, with photography by Iwan Baan and Matthew Monteith amongst other photographers. It also includes new dialogues with visionaries from other creative fields, including artist Edmund de Waal, art critic and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator Paola Antonelli, actor Alan Cumming...
