About the Item

Tibetan Buddhist Life by Don Farber Hardcover Book. Don Farber, Dorling Kindersley, 2003 - Buddhism - 192 pages. A richly illustrated overview of Tibetan Buddhism traces the origins and history of Buddhism in Tibet, its influence on Tibetan culture, its artistic and ritual expression, and the legacy of the Dalai Lamas, accompanied by more than two hundred photographs, both contemporary and period, as well as reproductions of ancient and modern Tibetan artwork. This is the first book to bring together all elements of Tibetan Buddhist life; a fragile culture in danger of vanishing from our world. A testament to the beauty, wisdom, and strength of these people, the book is richly illustrated with over 200 stunning reproductions. Included are many remarkable pictures by the author, acclaimed photographer Don Farber, in addition to historic and contemporary photographs, and both ancient and modern Tibetan art. In-depth text explores the development of Tibetan Buddhism and its influence on other cultures; monastic and laic life-artistic and ritual expression, spiritual and daily life; and the legacy of the Dalai Lamas. A special section comprises photographs and rare interviews with Buddhist masters from the last generation of lamas trained in Tibet. Author Biography: Don Farber has photographed Buddhist life for over two decades in Asia and the West, and has been a special photographer for the Dalai Lama since 1989. His work has appeared in many publications, including Life and Time magazines, and has been exhibited around the world. Founded in New York in 1981 with the guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, The Tibet Fund's primary mission is the preservation of the distinct cultural, religious, and national identity of the Tibetan people.

Where Every Breath Is A Prayer A Photographic Pilgrimage In Asia Hardcover Book
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Where Every Breath Is A Prayer: A Photographic Pilgrimage Into The Spiritual Heart Of Asia By Jon Ortner This is a beautiful large coffee table book. Edition first edition Binding hardcover PublisherStewart, Tabori & Chang Place Of Publication New York ,USA Date Published 1996 Keywords Buddhism Asia Spiritualism. With devotion and artistry, Photographer Jon Ortner has captured the essence of the sacred lands and ancient traditions of the world's most mysterious region. Retracing the journeys of holy men and shamans, he has traveled thousands of miles, over more than two decades, to portray spectacular landscapes, architectural marvels, and mystical peoples. His inspiring images-more than 300 in full color-vividly bring to life Asia's revered topography from the highest mountains and deepest gorges of the Himalayas to the once forbidden temples of Myanmar and Cambodia. Here also are the world's oldest city, Varanasi on India's Ganges River, majestic Angkor Wat, the largest temple ever built, and the volcanic peaks of Bali-magical landscapes infused with sanctity. His portraits of people are equally compelling, ranging from simply-clad ascetics engaged in ancient rites to gorgeously costumed dancers performing the same rites as their ancestors, visions that few Westerners have seen. The compelling narratives that accompany these haunting photographs trace the evolution of Hinduism and Buddhism, provide a travelogue of the region, and celebrate the teachings of these holy peoples...
