Antique Miniature Portrait on Bone with Fitted Case 14-Karat Yellow Gold Brooch

About the Item

Dating from the late 17th century and done in the Federalist style, this finely detailed and well executed hand painted miniature portrait on bone of a period nobleman can be worn as a brooch, or displayed as a painting. The back is unmarked, but tests for 14-karat yellow gold and presents with a window that displays locks of woven hair in a decorative pattern. The fitted leather case retains its original clasp and hinges and inner lining and opens and closes as intended. The artist is unknown and the painting is unsigned.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Some wear present on the back of the brooch consistent with age and use. Also some scuffs and scratches to the leather exterior of the case. The satin type lining is fully intact and the clasp of the brooch is strong and sturdy.
