About the Item
This unique traditional necklace originates from North Africa, most likely from Morocco or Tunisia. It is crafted from 14-karat gold and adorned with natural coral beads. The piece dates back to 1870 and has a total weight of 52.5 grams, including the corals.
The necklace is designed with symbolic elements that represent protection and good fortune. The central pendant is decorated with angelic faces, believed to ward off the evil eye, while the fish-shaped charms are symbols of prosperity and blessings. The combination of gold and coral was commonly used in traditional jewelry, as it was thought to provide spiritual protection and positive energy to the wearer.
Measuring 18 inches in length, this exquisite necklace is a rare and historically significant piece that reflects the artistry and cultural heritage of North African craftsmanship. Its intricate goldwork and symbolic motifs make it not only a beautiful adornment but also a meaningful talisman.

Very Good - A slight kink in the chain and a tiny bend at the base of one of the charms. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the appeal of the piece.
The Details...
Although un-hallmarked, this necklace is most likely constructed from silver gilt. It features a delicate herringbone chain. Suspended from the chain is a selection of Egyptian inspired charms. There are Ankhs, Lotus flowers and Hamsa hand symbols. There are also three postage stamp charms detailed with skiff boats on the Nile and the goddess, Hathor. The necklace fastens with a bolt ring and measures 38cm in length.
A Short History...
In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and, thereby, ignited a Western fascination with Ancient Egypt which permeated the Arts. Jewellery designers created heavily stylised profiles of people and hieroglyphs taken from tomb walls, as can be seen in this necklace. Reviving Egyptian...
