Chinese Bat & Gourd Charm Ring, c. 1900
About the Item
Dated to the late 19th century, this silver charm ring was crafted by the Miao peoples of the Guizhou province and was believed to protect the wearer from bad luck and malevolent spirits. The ring is decorated with a pierced, low relief design of a round gourd and a bat, surrounded by clouds and small flowers. This motif of a bat and gourd conveys the saying "may you have both blessings and wealth," and so imparts good luck for the wearer. A short chain hangs from the face of the ring, strung with a repoussé charm bell shaped as a peach, a symbol of longevity.
Ring band is adjustable. All jewelry sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.
