Chinese Double Butterfly Charm Ring, c. 1900

About the Item

Dated to the late 19th century, this silver charm ring was crafted by the Miao peoples of the Guizhou province and was believed to protect the wearer from bad luck and malevolent spirits. The ring is decorated in relief with a central flower blossom flanked by two butterflies. A short chain hangs from the face of the ring, ending in a small repoussé bell shaped as an offering fruit. This motif of two butterflies facing each other is a symbol for joyful encounters, such as the union of two lovers or an unexpected meeting between friends. A common motif on wedding gifts, two butterflies also conveys a blessing of marital happiness. Ring band is adjustable. All jewelry sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.
