Exquisite 19th Century Cabinet of Curiosities Object – Jeweled Elephant

About the Item

Exquisite 19th Century Object from a Cabinet of Curiosities – Jeweled Elephant Important, finely carved elephant sculpture, probably made in Germany in the 19th century, intended as a luxurious object of virtuosity and a centerpiece for a cabinet of curiosities. The elephant is finely carved from a single piece of precious material (probably ivory or bone, subject to verification), with careful attention to anatomical details and surface ornamentation, reflecting the refined craftsmanship of Central European workshops of the period. This magnificent piece is richly decorated with 18-karat gold appliqués and polychrome enamels. The upper howdah (canopy or ornamental platform), suspension chains, hooves, and tusk tips are made of solid gold, carefully shaped and polished. The gold is set with 33 natural diamonds, 5 sapphires, and several natural pearls, elegantly arranged to emphasize the figure's form and majesty. The harmonious combination of precious metals, gemstones, and fine carving elevates this object to the ranks of high jewelry and decorative arts, making it not only a sculpture but also a testament to the 19th-century European taste for the exotic and opulence. Origin: Probably Germany Period: 19th century Materials: Carved organic material (probably ivory or bone), 18-karat gold, polychrome enamel, diamonds, sapphires, natural pearls Condition: Excellent condition; all decorative elements are intact and the gemstones are securely set; Slight wear due to age Dimensions: 17 cm (H) × 12 cm (W) × 6 cm (D) This exceptional, museum-quality sculpture is a must-have collector's item, ideal for lovers of valuables, jewelry, and European curio cabinets.

19th Century French Gothic Sacrament Cabinet
Located in Dallas, TX
19th Century French Gothic Sacrament cabinet was artfully sculpted from solid oak and fruitwood to create a remarkable religious artifact designed to be appreciated throughout the ages! The trapezoidal form of the casework is in keeping with the Gothic style, which historians concur originated in the Cathedral of St. Denis during the middle of the 12th century. Boldly molded crown follows the complex contours and overlooks the case below which features a single door flanked by cornerposts that feature pilasters facing front as well as the sides, with recessed arched panels topped with recessed circular frames above filled with carved rosettes highlighted in gold. The arched recesses facing the front are also filled with carved floral and wheat motifs also highlighted in gold, representing the Bread of Life. The door panel, however, steals the show, with a gloriously carved relief work depicting both wheat and fully laden grapevines adding the significance of the Blood of Christ...
