Héctor Aguilar Sunflower 0.940 Silver And Amethyst Quartz Brooch

About the Item

An interesting 1940's Mexican 0.940 Silver brooch by Taxco silver designer Héctor Aguilar. The sunflower-shaped brooch is shows an amethyst quartz in the middle and spheres surrounding both the cabuchon and the leaves. Marked on the back with the HA monogram, the Taxco mark and the 940 silver mark. Weight: 25 g. Héctor Aguilar was born in 1905 and died in 1986. In 1937, Aguilar joined the Las Delicias workshop owned by William Spratling. In 1939, he founded his own workshop, Taller de la Borda, which existed until 1966. He was also the shop manager for Spratling's shop in Taxco. Aguilar's pieces were sold in high-end shops like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Frida Kahlo and Dolores del Río were some of his most prominent patrons.
