About the Item

Walking stick: jeweled walking stick, octagonal milord-shaped knob in 16Kt. gold. In the upper part, we find a table embedded with a pietradura, or Florentine mosaic, of octagonal shape, depicting a bouquet of flowers, made up of small sections of different semiprecious stones, shaped to form the flowers in a realistic way, made possible thanks to the natural colors of the semiprecious stones. The black background is made from black Belgian marble or absolute black. Offered to James Hoy Jr. P.M., as a token of their respect, by the clerks and carriers of the Philadelphia Post Office, December 25, 1844. Ebonized Malacca cane. Iron tip. United States of America, 1844.
