About the Item

Walking stick: Art Nouveau jeweled stick, L-shaped knob in 800/1000 silver (parts of the knob are gilded) worked in repoussé and finished with a chisel, depicting a floral motif: branches of flowers and leaves of lilies of the valley. The band is made of round cabochon sapphires. Along the knob, a decoration in the shape of a ribbon in relief, shows cabochon sapphires also in round shape. Ebony wood cane carved in relief with fake thorns. Metal tip. The creator, Renato Brozzi (1885-1963), was a painter, goldsmith and silversmith. Born in the province of Parma, Italy, he began working at the local Fonderia Artistica Giuseppe Baldi, where he learned the technique of repoussé and chiselling. After further studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Parma, in 1907, Brozzi moved to Rome where he remained for the rest of his career. In 1915 he won a gold medal at the San Francisco International Exhibition of Fine Arts and in 1919 he designed the famous reverse of the Italian 10 cent coin, depicting a bee sitting on a poppy flower.
