Box size cm36x28x10 - inches 14.1x11x4 The origins of the publishing house date back to 1750 when the progenitor Francesco Cesare (1736-1799) took over a small craft business in the heart of old Milan, on Via Santa Margherita. The historic venue soon became an important artistic and literary center, frequented by Giuseppe Parini, Alessandro Volta and the Verri brothers, among others. It was continued by his sons Pietro (1770-1819) and Giuseppe (1784-1861), then from 1822 Pietro's widow Giuseppina Redaelli, to whom his sons Francesco (1809-1895) and Antonio (1813-1876) respectively gave birth to two autonomous branches of the publishing house: The Francesco Vallardi, specialized in scientific and encyclopedic editions; the Antonio Vallardi established in educational production. In the first half of the nineteenth century, the publishing house distinguished itself by producing artistic, geographical and scientific works The initials "Vallardi" were born in 1843, and the company has since taken on an industrial character, with the opening of branches nationwide and the construction of the factory on Via Moscova, among the first in Italy to be equipped with electric lighting. In 1970 it was sold to Garzanti.
